robert john linder. the only child of johnathan james and lori linder, though he doesn't have much of a memory of either of them anymore. his mother died when he was 3 years old, and was traded away for cigarettes when he was 4. he has little memory of what happened after that, but thankfully ended up in care of a former nomad woman. she moved them to night city when he was about 10 years old.not long after that point would be when he'd end up meeting kerry eurodyne in their shared 5th grade class. they were almost immediately joined at the hip.if he were asked later in life why he'd decided to join the military when he was 14, he wouldn't be able to give a very good answer. maybe it was partially to escape the grief of losing his adoptive mother, maybe it was just to prove he could. No matter the answer, though, no part of him really regretted it. After all, his part of the second central american war was what opened his eyes in the first place.2003 was a hell of a year for him. went to war, lost a friend, lost an arm, woke up to the absolute shit show that was the government, became johnny silverhand, but also, he and Kerry would form samurai not too long after he came home. to top it all off? they were signed to an actual label before the year even ended.samurai fizzled out in 2008, where he and kerry would end up being signed to the same label for their solo acts. they were still practically inseparable, with them touring together for much of their early solo careers.in 2013, johnny was dating a netrunner named alt cunningham. he was never aware of just how good at it she was, creating the infamous program known as soulkiller. so, it was no surprise that he thought he was the reason why she was kidnapped in front of him by arasaka goons.after invading arasaka tower with the help of his ex, rogue, and a few others, alt unfortunately would end up dying while behind the black wall. if johnny hadn't had a vendetta for arasaka before, he sure as fuck did now. so when militech approached him to lead a team to infiltrate arasaka tower once again, who was he to say no?
how he'd gone from threatening her life to caring about her more than he had about anyone in a long, long time... he wouldn't be able to tell ya. no matter how it happened, though, johnny knows what he needs to do. vae needs to live.

as far as she cares, v doesn't have parents.she was raised by the bakkers. they are her family. or, they were for a very long time. teaching her how to take care of herself and the family, how to rely on people. she never thought she'd be alone with the family by her side.until the bakkers sold out to snake nation. she couldn't rightfully stay with them after that. tearfully, she would end up leaving the clan to preserve her morals, saying goodbye to the family that'd taken care of her all her life.thankfully, through a botched smuggling operation, v would end up befriending jackie welles. from there, she'd quickly ended up with a newfound family in the form of him, mama welles, viktor vektor, and misty olszewski. with the addition of t-bug, vae and jackie would end up as a seemingly unstoppable trio.until they weren't.t-bug was dead. jackie was dead. v died, too, only to be forcibly revived by the relic and given a fancy brain tumor.it's a lot. it's too much, in her opinion. but what more can she do but keep going?
she's not sure anyone will really understand her relationship with johnny. well, maybe kerry and rogue. loving a bastard that'd hurt them.it seemed like a commonality in every person that god too close to him. they either came to hate him, or they'd fall for him. vae is almost relieved it's the latter for her.

one of the first people after the welles family to really help her out in night city. vae owes him a lot and couldn't appreciate him more. she cares about him deeply. maybe that's why she kept her distance after getting johnny stuck in her head - to avoid how upset it all made him.
Misty. oh, misty. vae adores her, but now the sight of her fills her with guilt. even after their talk, vae still feels responsible for what happened to jackie. she hopes that one day she can properly apologize to misty. for now, it's started by trying to heed her warnings.

she wasn't prepared to end up befriending a nearly 90 year old rockerboy, but it's far from the weirdest shit she's done as of late. while initially feeling like shit over him basically using her to replace johnny, their friendship has become so much more than that.
Ride or die! that's the nomad way, man. after losing her clan and jackie, panam was a breath of fresh air that reminded her so much of home. she's a lot more intense than vae is, but that's fine. vae feels like they even each other out.

vae is cautiously friends with river. they've had many a good moment, but some of his actions and words have left her just a bit on edge. Johnny's done far far worse, so she tries not to judge him. she likes him most when he's in uncle river mode.
